Lowney Associates provided geotechnical engineering services for the 500-acre Bernal Development in Pleasanton, encompassing new residential subdivisions, an office park, and commercial/retail area. Approximately half of the site will be developed by Bernal Investors Company with the remainder deeded to the City of Pleasanton. The residential portion of the development includes 435 single-family homes, 46 duets, and 100 apartment units. Eight, 4-story buildings with approximately 745,000 square feet of office space are planned for the new office park. Primary geotechnical issues for the development consisted of loose near-surface soils and the presence of structures and pipelines from previous site use.
