The City of Union City was privileged to receive one of a limited
number of EPA-funded grants to investigate and, if needed, clean up a Union
City brownfield. The site is a former meatpacking plant and is slated to be
redeveloped with single or multi-family homes and recreational areas. The
City retained Lowney Associates to prepare a Sampling and Analysis
Plan when the original environmental consultant was not successful in gaining
EPA approval. Lowney's Plan was approved by the EPA. Lowney also will oversee
demolition of the plant's remaining structures, perform a physical survey
of the site, and conduct a Phase II environmental site characterization.
