Vibration Monitoring

Lowney Associates provided geotechnical engineering services for the construction of a four-level, 40,000-square-foot parking structure for a pharmaceutical and healthcare manufacturing plant. Lowney Associates recommended piles driven through deep rubble fill into saturated sands. The client was concerned that pile-driving vibrations would disrupt the plant's sensitive manufacturing process. If vibrations were perceptible in the plant, pile-driving would have been restricted to holiday down time, resulting in overtime charges. Lowney Associates monitored the pile-driving ground vibrations and background noise in the plant to help the client determine that the pile-driving would not impact their manufacturing process. The architect was Choate Parking Consultants, Inc.
