Lowney Associates is providing geotechnical and environmental engineering services for Summit Commercial's 720,000 square-foot, mixed use commercial and entertainment complex. The development spans ten acres encompassing three city blocks and will be the cornerstone of Daly City's major downtown revitalization plan. The development was designed to span a ravine filled with 45 feet of loose soil and debris of unknown origin. Lowney recommended stone columns as a potential soil improvement technique to allow conventional shallow foundations to be used. Lowney worked closely with the design/build team to develop appropriate design criteria. Lowney's environmental team performed a Phase II site assessment, characterizing the fill materials, and overseeing the removal of site debris and lead-impacted soil.
