Applied Biosystems retained Lowney Associates to provide geotechnical engineering and construction observation and testing services for the design and construction of a 600,000 square-foot campus at the former Kaiser Chemical & Aluminum Facility in Pleasanton. Applied Biosystems' planned campus includes five, 2- to 3-story steel-framed buildings, parking lots, access roads, and landscaping. Lowney worked closely with the design team: MBT Architecture, Structural Engineers, Inc., BKF Engineers, and Devcon Construction to facilitate a fast-track schedule and wintertime construction. Applied Biosystems is a technology leader in the life science market, conducting research on the laws of nature; pharmaceutical and biotechnology; and HIV genotyping and food testing.
